Good poker-convenient hotels in LA?

SuperflySuperfly Posts: 591Subscriber
I will be coming to LA during the holiday break for some nice weather and good poker. Plan to play mostly 5-10 NLHE at Royal Park and Hawaiian Gardens. Would Long Beach be a safe, convenient location to stay? Any interesting hotels you can recommend? I prefer boutique-type hotels with unique character over cookie-cutter business chains, priced up to $200 per night ok. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Royal Park? You mean Hollywood Park?

TBH the Bike's hotel is very nice. I'm not sure if you would call it "boutique" but its very close to COmmerce, its at the Bike, and within 20-30 min of HG and HP. Bart

Oops, yes, Hollywood Park. Prefer not to stay actually at a casino. Someplace near coast with good restaurants, shops, cafes, walking, etc.

By the way, does 5-10 NLHE run consistently at HP and HG during the week? Or do you need to go to the Bike or Commerce to be assured of finding 5-10 on weekdays?

Weekdays 5-10 $1500 cap goes at the Commerce, 3-4 games, 1-2 games $1500 cap at HG, and 1-3 games mostly 5-10-20 at HP. Bike has 5-5, 300-1000, sometimes 5/10 $3k cap at night. Bart

Long beach has nice areas and bad areas. It's hard to give you a very accurate answer on that. Consider AirBNB as well. Bike has a nice hotel. Not sure what the rates are. I think Commerce is something like $140/night???

I just stayed at Commerce last week, 145/night. But a guy in the poker room said the trick is to use Hotwire, put in a lowball price and specify only 4 star+ hotels in a limited geographic area. Basically that limits results to Commerce and Bike, he said he paid $85/night for 5 nights. Obv I can't verify, but I respect the hustle.

The Bike's hotel is genuinely a high end hotel, and the Commerce is like a regular Holiday Inn.

I don't disagree, but if you can get Commerce for 85 vs Bike at 225ish, most of us will take it. (Again, if you can.)
